Chlorella (Chlorella vulgaris) is a blue-green algae, known to be one of the world's most complete foods. It provides protein, carbohydrate and broad-spectrum vitamins, plus a wide range of minerals and enzymes.

Chlorella is best-known as a popular basis to detoxification programmes. However, it is regarded increasingly as a highly useful general dietary supplement that provides broad support for a healthy diet. It is justifiably popular among people with active lifestyles. A significant component of Chlorella is the green pigment chlorophyll, which is high in magnesium. Chlorella is also rich in protein.

Chlorella packs a significant arsenal of vitamins, including Vitamins A, C, E, B9 and K. It supplies minerals that include Calcium, Iron, Phosphorous, Potassium and Sodium. This is a multi-tasking food that deserves a central place in everybody's diet. It does many jobs for many people, and it does them all well.

Production
Rainforest Foods Chlorella is grown organically on an island in the South China Sea. Laboratory-cultivated batches grow and multiply by photosynthesis in cultivation ponds containing filtered natural water. Once it has reached the required density the Chlorella is harvested. It is dried by a process known as spray evaporation, which retains virtually all the available nutritional value while rendering the product into powder form. Next, the tough cell wall is broken. While this is an aid to detoxification as it binds toxins to it as we digest the Chlorella, it also creates a barrier which reduces the amount of nutrients available from within the cell. The cell wall-breaking process does not damage the contents, but does make them bio-available.

Organic Certification
Rainforest Foods Chlorella powder is certified by the Soil Association, one of a handful of organic certification bodies in the UK. These are regulated in their turn by DEFRA (Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs). The role of the Soil Association is to ensure that all foods sold as organic are definably so. It does this by auditing every stage of the supply chain, through growth, export and processing. Soil Association certification - indicated by the Soil Association logo and the EU organic leaf symbol on our packaging - is a guarantee that our customers are purchasing an organic product. All organically-certified products must also carry a certification code on their packaging. For UK companies such as Rainforest Foods this has the format GB-ORG-XX, XX indicating the certifying body. If this is not present, a product is not organic. The Soil Association code on our products is GB-ORG-05.

Suggested Use
We recommend that you take one heaped teaspoon (3 grams), with water, once or twice a day. It should ideally be taken 30 minutes before meals. We also recommend that you take a reduced dose during the first week to minimise detoxification symptoms. Store your Chlorella in a cool, dry place.
